On 22 December in the Polish Prosecution General, representatives of Belarusian and international organizations met with Robert Hernand, the Substitute of Polish Public Prosecutor General. The representative of the Center “Collaboration without borders” Ihar Schekarevich, the representative of the “Union for Democracy in Belarus” Anatol Mikhnavets and the representative of the “European Belarus” Zmitser Barodka and also human rights activist Andrei Zhukavets attended this meeting.
During the conversation with Gernando also journalists must be present. In the course of the contacts with the Public Prosecutor General, Belarusian activists wanted to invite representatives from media. The representative of Polish Public Prosecutor General, which was responsible for organizing the meeting, at first didn’t, took exception to accepting journalists. But when journalists tried to enter to the meeting, it was denied. Perhaps the substitute of Polish Public Prosecutor General was afraid of answering the critical questions at their presence.
At the meeting they discussed about a lot of violations to the Belarusian opposition activists in Poland. Namely, the decision of the prosecutor in Bydgoszcz, which effectively banned the use of the Belarusian national white-red-white flag at the sport events in Poland and prolonged prosecutor’s persecution to Andrei Zhukavts in Białystok.
Belarusians are also interested in the reason why the employees of Polish Prosecution General, who gave the Belarusian authority bank details of Aleś Bielacki, so far did not suffered a deserved punishment.
According to representatives of organizations, prosecutions of various Polish cities are responsible for all of these violations. Activists do not exclude that some of these decisions of prosecutions were made in cooperation with the Belarusian regime.
Representatives of Belarusian and international organizations asked Robert Gernand, the Polish Public Prosecutor General for impact on their subordinates by preventing them from violations of the Polish law. The only effective way is to hold them liable for previous violations of the Polish law.
After the meeting activists regarded it as a success. This is the first conversation on the level of representatives of Belarusian and Polish Public Prosecutor General. The contact with the Public Prosecutor General was established, which in the future will help in avoiding violations to the Belarusian opposition activists in Poland.
